Easy and Delicious Meals to Cook Over a Fire

As fall approaches and the temperature starts cooling down, families will be spending more and more time huddled around the campfire making lasting memories. Make the most out of your firepit this season with these easy, campfire recipes that your family is sure to love.

Campfire Chicken Pot Pie

This recipe takes about 10 minutes to prep and 45 minutes to cook on the fire. It is absolutely delicious and the whole family will love it!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cans of mixed vegetables 
  • 3 potatoes, cut into cubes
  • 1 can of cream of chicken soup
  • 1 can of cream of mushroom soup
  • 2 large cooked chicken breasts, cut into cubes
  • 1 can of refrigerated biscuit dough

Directions:

1. Stir the vegetables, potatoes, cans of chicken and mushroom soup, and chicken cubes together in a dutch oven pot. 

2. Cook for about 15 minutes until hot, but not boiling. 

3. Lay biscuit dough over the vegetable mixture in the dutch oven pot. Put the lid on the pot and place some hot coals on the lid. 

4. Leave on the fire until the biscuits are cooked, about 15 to 20 minutes.

It's as easy as that! This recipe makes about 6 servings of delicious pot pie. 

Campfire BBQ Cowboy Casserole

This is another great camping recipe that is easy to make; it only takes 25 minutes and it tastes great!

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound of ground beef
  • 1/2 pound of bacon
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 2 cans of baked beans (with pork if desired)
  • 1/3 cup of barbecue sauce
  • 1 package of refrigerated biscuit dough

Directions:

1. Start by cooking the bacon in a large skillet. Once cooked, drain the grease and cut into bite-sized pieces. 

2. Add ground beef and onion to the same skillet used for the bacon. Cook until onions are tender and beef is no longer pink. Drain skillet. 

3. Stir bacon, baked beans, and barbecue sauce into the ground beef and bring to a boil. Place biscuits on top of mixture.

4. Cover and simmer for about 10 minutes until the biscuits are cooked. 

5. Place biscuits on plate and pour the mixture over the top. 

Mountain Man Breakfast Over a Campfire

This next recipe takes about an hour and a half, and makes 12 servings. It might take a little while, but it is worth the wait!

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound of mild pork sausage
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 2 chopped bell peppers (one red, one green) 
  • 1 clove of minced garlic
  • 1 package of frozen hash browns
  • 12 eggs (beaten)
  • 1 package of shredded cheese

Directions:

1. First, cook the sausage, onion, and garlic in a 12 inch pan or dutch oven with a lid until the sausage is no longer pink and the onions are tender.

2. Stir in the bell peppers and hash browns until evenly mixed. Cook, stirring occasionally until hash browns and bell peppers are tender (about 15 minutes).

3. Pour the beaten egg evenly over the mixture, allow eggs to soak into hash browns. Cover the pan and allow to cook for about 40 minutes, until the eggs are firm. Make sure you place 6-9 coals underneath the pan, and 12-18 on top of the covered pan. 

4. When your mountain man breakfast is about 5 minutes away from being done, sprinkle on the shredded cheese and allow it to melt.
