Walden Original Fire Pit Grate w/ Ember Catcher

A heavy duty fire pit grate with a built-in ember catcher. Half-inch steel lifts the logs so air feeds from below, and embers stay in the fire.

Wood lying flat on the floor of a pit smoulders and leaves you half burnt logs in the morning. Lift it and the fire pulls air from underneath — hotter, less smoke drifting into the chairs, far less left to shovel out the next day. The difference with this one is the catcher. Coals that would drop straight through a bar grate stay up in the fire, where they are still doing work.

Sizing. The number is the grate, not the pit.

This grate drops inside the pit rather than resting on the rim, so it has to be smaller than the opening. Measure the narrowest inside distance across your pit. The 24 inch fits pits 25 inches and larger and stands 3 inches tall. The 29.5 inch fits pits 30 inches and larger and stands 4 inches tall. If your opening comes in under 25 inches, neither size will sit properly. Caught between the two, go down rather than up — a grate needs room to sit flat instead of wedging against the wall.
