A solid steel dome ends the evening without a hose. Set it over the fire and the fire goes out on its own as the air runs out. No steam, no soaked ash, nothing to shovel out in the morning. It stays on between fires too, which keeps rain, snow and leaves out of the pit and leaves the unburned wood dry enough to light next time.

Forty to forty five pounds of spun American steel, and shipping is included. This is not a vinyl cover you cinch down with a drawstring. It is 14 gauge carbon steel, heavy enough to smother a live fire by sitting on it, with two welded stainless handles so you can actually move it.

Water is the usual answer and it does work, but soaking a hot pit again and again is hard on it, and the hot to cold shock is what starts cracks. A lid takes the oxygen instead of the heat, so nothing gets shocked and nothing gets wet.

How to size it. Each size below lists the largest fire pit opening it covers. The dome sits over the opening and rests on the pit top rather than dropping inside, so the cover is always wider than the hole. If your pit falls between two sizes, go up rather than down.

This replaces the single size lid we sold for years. The reason we changed it is simple. A lid that fits one diameter and nothing else is no use to most of the people writing to us, because they already have a pit built and they are not about to rebuild it around a lid.
